It was an extremely disappointing display from Cote d’Ivoire side ASEC Mimosas and Egyptian side Al Ahly as they played to a boring 0-0 draw in their final CAF Champions League, Group A game at the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan on Wednesday.
Both teams went into the match unable to qualify for the semifinals of the continental competition and only had pride to play for, but neither side was able to deliver on the day.
Both teams were very disappointing in the final third. Chances on goal were at a bare minimum with both teams squandering possession due to some poor passing and bad decision making.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the 90 minutes which saw the two teams sharing the spoils on the day.
The result sees Al Ahly finish third in Group A with six points, three points adrift of second placed Zescon United while ASEC Mimosas finished bottom of the standings with five points.
The match signals the end of Al Ahly and ASEC Mimosas’ time in this year’s CAF Champions League competition.
The two teams progressing from Group A into the semifinals are Wydad Casablanca who topped the standings with 11 points, followed by Zesco United with nine points.
Wydad Casablanca and Zesco United played to a 1-1 draw in their final Group A game, also on Wednesday.
