Egyptian giants Al Ahly will look to bow out of the CAF Champions League with pride when they face Ivorians ASEC Mimosas at Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan on Wednesday, kick-off at 16h30.
Al Ahly have already been eliminated from semifinal contention, having claimed just five points from as many Group A matches thus far.
The Egyptian giants’ last result in the competition was a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Zambia’s Zesco United earlier this month. It ensured the Southern Africans will progress into the final four at Ahly’s expense, as well as sealing the fate of Martin Jol, who was axed from his position as Red Devils coach.
ASEC also have nothing to shout about, coming into the clash while sitting at the bottom of the log with four points. Their last Champions League result was a 2-1 loss away to group leaders Wydad Casablanca in Rabat.
The West African side can at least aim to defeat Al Ahly and leapfrog them into third spot. This would see them complete a ‘double’ over the Egyptians, having beaten them 2-1 in Alexandria back in June.
South African referee Daniel Bennett will take charge of the match in Abidjan.
