Sudanese rivals Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal Omdurman will meet in Group A of the CAF Champions League on Friday night.

The two East African giants come into the game holding second and third positions of the group, but it’s only by the skin of their teeth as fourth placed Ferroviaro de Berria also has four points after the first four matchdays with Etoile du Sahel leading the group with eight points.

Hosts Al-Merreikh will want to maintain their winning formula as they come from a 2-1 win over Mozambican side Ferroviario de Berria in their last Champions League clash.

On their side,Omdurman drew 1-1 aganist Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel at home and will be expecting for a win aganist their neighbours.

Al-Merreikh coach Diego Garzitto is expected to be under pressure at home as it is a must win game that carries bragging rights in the Sudanese football.

Omduruman side under coach Naubi Kauki have conceded three goals from four matches which  is a good record for the visiting side, and they will be banking on their defence to hold El-Merreikh at bay.

But given that this group has seen good showing for both club at home , one would have to back Al-Merreikh to claim all three points and take control of the pool. Yet East Africa derbies can produce unpredictable results and the Sudanese will fancy their chances of a positive result on the road.

The other Group A match will see Ferroviario de Beria host Etoile du Sahel in Maputo on Saturday afternon.
