Algeria’s Desert Foxes overcame the Elephants of Ivory Coast 4-3 on penalties to set up a mouthwatering showdown with Nigeria in Sunday’s Semifinal.
Algeria and Ivory Coast went into a lottery of penalties after the match ended 1-1 in regulation and extra time.
Sofiane Feghouli opened the scoring in the 20th minute to give the Foxes a half-time lead. Baghdad Bounedjah had the opportunity to double the lead for his side but his poorly executed spot kick hit the top of the bar and out.
Jonathan Kodja punished the Algerians with an equalizer, making them concede for the first time in the tournament.
Wilfried Bony and Serey Die missed their respective spot kicks and Algeria converted four out of five to progress to the Semifinals
