Algeria claimed its second Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 29 years after a 1-0 victory over Senegal at the Cairo International Stadium in Egypt.
The two sides met in the group stages with Algeria registering a 1-0 scoreline, and Senegal without their suspended star defender Kalidou Koulibaly, conceded early in the game.
Baghdad Bounedjah scored the only goal of the game in the first two minutes of the first half. Bounedjah’s shot took a huge deflection and looped into the net to give the Desert Foxes the lead.
Senegal thought they had a penalty in the 59th minute but the decision was overruled by VAR.
Senegal who were favourites to win the competition will have to wait for their first maiden trophy.
Aliou Cisse must now rally his troops and focus on the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
For Djamel Belmadi, it is party time for his Algerian team as they clinch their second Afcon title.
