Algeria came back twice to rescue a point against a determined Burkina Faso side in a Group D match at the Stade Bouake on Saturday.
Goals from Mohamed Konate and Bentrand Traoré had the Stallions in front on two occasions. Baghdad Bounejah struck twice to rescue a 2-2 draw and take his tally to 3 goals in the competition making him joint top scorer with Emilio Nsue of Equatorial Guinea.
Burkina Faso knew that a victory will take them through to the Last 16 while Algeria were looking to kick start their campaign after their 1-1 draw against Angola in the first match.
Algeria enjoyed more of the possession in the match but it was the Stallions who were more clinical in front of goal.
Mohamed Konate opened the scoring a few moments from halftime with a well taken header to take the Stallions leading into the interval. The goal was ruled for offside but a VAR review allowed the goal to stand.
Bounejah restored parity a few minutes after the restart to continue his goal scoring form.
Burkina Faso went ahead again thanks to Bertrand Traoré who converted from the penalty spot. Issa Kabore won the penalty for his side after he was kicked in the box by Rayan Ait Nouri.
Initially the on-field match Official missed the incident but VAR intervened and the spot kick was awarded.
Traoré gladly dispatched the penalty for his second of the competition.
Late in added time Burkina Faso were undone from a set-piece with Bounejah rising high to head home for the equalizer.
The Stallions maintain top spot in the Group on 4 points and will now shift their attention to their last game against Angola on Tuesday.
Algeria have two points and will be hoping for a positive outcome when they play Mauritania on the same day as they have now gone 5 games without a win in the Africa Cup of Nations.
