Ali Abondo pleased with the first appearance for Ajax Cape Town
Abondo nicknamed “Teargas” by his Kenyan fans spoke exclusively to Soka25east.com less than 24 hours after experiencing the ABSA Premiership for the first time with his new club Ajax Cape Town on Wednesday night.
Coach Rodger De Sar handed the 26-year old attacking midfielder 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Jomo Cosmos at Cape Town Stadium, an opportunity Abondo embraced with two hands and made the most of as he was the man to go for set pieces and corners.
“It was a great feeling for me and I want to thank Allah and Ajax for giving me this opportunity to express my talent. I would also like to mention my Kenyan brothers who wished me well, I’m truly humbled,” Abondo said.
Kenyans last night took to social media to express their support for the home boy when they realized he made it to the starting line up versus the Jomo Sono’s men, and this did not pass the former Gor Mahia, Tusker and Sony FC player’s attention.
Abondo thinks the South African league is much faster compared Kenya’s “Sportpesa Premier League”
“It’s a bit faster and there is minimal room for silly mistakes. You run the entire game meaning your fitness levels must be top notch at all times. I like the organization of the club and the league itself which I find top class.”
De Sa had this to say about his new acquisition, “I think he will be a good one for us. He is a ‘10’ and can also play out on the wing. He is a touch player and he is polished. There are good signs and hopefully he will get better and better.”
