Uganda’s new club football sensation Onduparaka FC is silently but ambitiously plotting to go toe to toe, if not surpass the big boys in a massive revitalisation drive as they enter top flight football.
Onduparaka confirmed premier league status for the first time in their short and envious history on May 14 after thrashing Lira Sporting United 3-0 at Green Light Stadium.
In a strategic shake up meant to boost their brand and endear themselves to fans and also widen their already sizable regional and nationwide support base, the 2016 Uganda Cup finalists are reworking on their logo.
According to one of the club’s publicity team member Michael Babu, they wanted a logo more representative of their roots and identity as they restructure towards self sustainability.
“We would like the logo to be representative of the roots of the club and the identity around it. The old logo was good but we thought we needed to revise it to fit with the identify of the club,” Babu told Soka25east.com.
The six years old club formed by a group of University graduates who wanted to keep busy, traces it’s beginnings from Onduparaka village in Arua town which is located in the West Nile region.
The league newbies have played in every division recognized by Uganda’s football governing body, FUFA since 2011.
Interestingly, Onduparaka have always gained promotion at their first attempt and have always made it look easy – explaining the buzz around the team.
Onduparaka literally means “sorghum stalks”. The team is also famously nicknamed “The Caterpillars”
The proposed new logo depicts two sorghum stalks with a ball in between and two Caterpillars on top as explained by Babu.
“The current logo has a bird on it which really did not relate to the club. The team is also called the Caterpillars. It is a representation of our ambition to destroy any football club that comes our way. That is what the Caterpillar represents,”

Babu made it clear the logo is a work in progress and is in line with their fans mobilisation strategy seeking to spread presence in other regions. The club is currently in the process of setting up a fans club in the capital Kampala, rivaling the likes of SC Villa ,KCCA and URA.
“The logo is currently under design. We haven’t officially launched its usage. Once we complete the design and it is approved internally by our structures, we will have it registered with the relevant authorities and then patent it. It will appear on all official documents and apparel of the club, but only after we complete the processes I have highlighted.” He stressed.
