Thomas Emmanuel Ulimwengu will not renew his stay with DR Congo giants TP Mazembe, the club has announced.

The 23-year old Tanzanian international leaves the 5-time African champions after 5 successful years. During his stay, the Dodoma born dreaded winger, who signed for the Lubumbashi based outfit in 2011 from Swedish Academy, Athletic Football Club, scored 35 goals in 135 matches, plus numerous assists.

“He would not negotiate a new contract with TPM,” a statement posted on the club’s official website reads in part, adding that the player has “legitimate ambitions” to follow in the footsteps of country mate Mbwana Samatta, and move to Europe.

Ulimwengu and Samatta formed a deadly attack force for the “Ravens”, and were pivotal in delivering the 5th champions league title in 2015, before the latter was sold to KRC Genk of Belgium early this year.

Cocah Hubert Velud wished “Rambo” a successful career ahead, “Thomas has always performed well, it is normal as a human to look for new challenges in life, and I wish him much success in his future career.”

The player thanked the club for the opportunity to grow as human and in his football journey; he further expressed belief Mazembe will win CAF Confederations Cup.

“I want to thank Mazembe for the five years they allowed me to grow at human and football level, and I want to thank all those who supported me and helped us win trophies, led by President Katumbi and Mrs Carine, coaches, and the warm club supporters. I am convinced that TPM will win the CAF Cup. A big thank you to all,” Ulimwengu said.

Mazembe play Mo Bejaia of Algeria away in a two legged final of CAF Cup on October 29, before hosting the second leg a week later on November 6.
