The Black Stars of Ghana’s exploits at the Africa Cup of Nations in recent years have not been happy ones for them.
Despite boasting of numerous talents like Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew, Anthony Yeboah, Samuel Kuffour, Stephen Appiah and many more, Ghana’s last African crown came in 1978.
And now, a new generation of stars has emerged, leading them is the ever Green Asamoah Gyan.
Even with captain Gyan at the front-line, it is the energetic Andre Ayew who is stepping up to the plate and leading Ghana on the course for qualification in the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Ayew scored the only goal in the opening group game against a feisty Uganda side after Gyan won a penalty for the Black Stars.
The West Ham United forward stepped up and beat Dennis Onyango from 12 yards and celebrated in style.
Andre could have scored earlier in the game when his younger brother Jordan set him up but for the heroics of Dennis Onyango in goal saving the Cranes.
Up next for Avram Grants charges is a date with Mali at the Stade de Port Gentil with kickoff set for 6:00 PM.
Grant has lost Baba Rahman to injury and it will a tough assignment for the black stars to be honest as the Malians have already shown.
Get well soon my bro @babarahmangh and come back stronger. God is with you and we are always with you #Baba ????❤️ pic.twitter.com/GcnrFRWYo0

The stage is ripe however, for Andre Ayew to take the mantle from Asamoah Gyan and carry the black stars to their first African crown for 39 years.
