Angola have shot to the top of Group D after edging Mauritania 3-2 an entertaining match in Group D at the Stade Bouake on Saturday evening.
Following a 2-2 draw in the earlier game between Burkina Faso and Algeria, both Mauritania and Angola were looking for three points to boost their position on the table.
It was Angola who took the initiative in the game to sail to the top of the Group level on points with Burkina Faso.
The Palancas Negras took the lead through Gelson Dala with an acrobatic finish after 30 minutes of play.
The Lions of Chinguetti hit back just before half-time, Sidi Amar leveling the scores with a beautiful solo goal.
The Angolans restored their lead 5 minutes after the restart, Gelson Dala completing his brace in spectacular fashion.
Gilberto made it three for the Sable Antelopes. His effort deflecting into the back of the net.
Koita pulled a goal back for Mauritania with a blinder of a shot, a definite contender of the season.
Mauritania pushed for the equalizer but it was not to come as Angola held in to go top of Group D.
Angola will face Burkina Faso in the last group match on Tuesday while Mauritania face Algeria on the same day with both matches played simultaneously.
