Comorians have reacted angrily after Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr reportedly referred to their national team players as “fishermen, pool cleaners and waiters”, with many accusing him of racism and ignorance.
Kerr criticized Harambee Stars for their 2-2 draw against a lowly ranked Comoros on Saturday in a “sarcastic” tweet that has not gone well with Colecathens fans who have demanded a retraction and apology.
“Dylan Kerr has been allowed to insult us Comorians without reaction from president of our football federation. We the people of Comoros firmly condemn these insults against our nation. The Federation must lodge complain against that coach,” reads part of a joint statement from the fans in a video released by Moroni-based radio station,Hayba FM.
The former Simba SC of Tanzania coach offensive comments has sparked outrage from various coaches across Africa with the latest condemnation coming from former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche.
“He (Kerr) must apologize to people of Comoros and CAF need to punish him for the careless statement .That coach does not represent Kenya nor Gor Mahia which is a big club,” said Amrouche.
Kerr has so far privately defended his remarks saying that his comment was intended for a section of media whom according to him reported the draw as a big achievement for the country.
It is the first time a club coach of foreign nationality has publicly come out to hit at the poor display of the national team.
