KANGA BEAT MAGADI TO LIFT THE REGIONAL TROPHY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER

Kanga school beat Magadi 1-0 in extra time to lift the Lake region term 2B soccer title for the first time ever in the school’s history. This achievement was so historic in the sense that it is the first time a team from Migori County had made it to the nationals in term 2B soccer Competitions.
Magadi started on a high note but their efforts were thwarted by the Kanga water tight defence. The teams played to a barren draw after regular time, a game that was watched by a mammoth crowd at Homabay High School.

Kanga School , 2014 Regionals runners up, had their second choice keeper to thank for making incredible saves from Magadi. Shadrack Kawa, Kanga striker was voted the Most Valuable Player in the tournament after hitting the wood work twice .

PENALTY

With just 3 mns left in the second half of extra time, Kanga were awarded a penalty after their striker was brought down in the box.

 

“Magadi is a very good team. Most of their players play in the Super League with Kisumu Olympic but our goalkeeper was up to the challenge,” said Dick Obure , the Kanga School coach.

“This title has been so elusive for long and this is the happiest
day of my coaching career.
Last year we lost to Usenge in the semis and we treat this as a good reward.
We are now looking forward to meeting the likes of Kakamega high in the nationals that will be played in Nyeri from next month ” In the semis, Kanga school overcame Siaya County debutants Got Agulu 1-0 while Magadi eliminated East African Champions Barding, 5-4after a penalty shootout

Also carried with emotions of joy was the victors assistant coach Francis Nyakech who said the difficult stage is gone and their focus is the East African games in Gulu

In the girls’ category, 2015 Champions, Kobala Mixed defeated reigning Champions Nyakach Girls in the penalty shootout to reclaim the title

In volleyball, the remaining five teams played a round robbin that saw Sengera SDA retain their title and Chianda, runners up
.
The Girls trophy went to Segera from Siaya who successfully defended their crown.

Maurice Ochome, one of the tournament organisers praised the players for exhibithing high level of discipline
