Rongo’s Kanga School have successfully defended the Migori County Secondary Football games after edging out hard fighting Ugari from Suna in a mouth-watering final clash played at the Matare Boys High school grounds in Kuria East
The two teams were locked at 1-1 before Kanga cruised past the penalties 4-2.
It was a case of renewed rivalry when Kanga took on Ugari in the Boys soccer final in a tension-packed match. Earlier in the day, Mr Rabet who is also the Ugari principal had warned their rivals that football is not all about big names and that it will not be a walk in the Park.
He said that his boys understood his opponents so well and that was not the first time they were meeting since, in the year 2014, they proved to them what they are capable of matching them.
The match kicked off with Kanga pressing hard for an opener in vain.
With 16 mins into the game Ugari, midfielder converted a corner kick into the back of the net to the applause of the fans.
Funnily enough, most of the locals of Kuria East sub-county were in support of Ugari since its Kanga who knocked their team (Kegonga) out in the semis.
In the Girls category, St Gema from Nyatike also edged out Ugari on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In neighbouring Homabay County, Our Lady of Mercy Ringa Boys are the football champions after beating Ligisa 2-0 in a final match played at the Homabay High school while Kobala from Karachuonyo Sub-county edged Magare from Homabay 1-0 to win the girls’ category.
Both Ringa and Ligisa will represent the County in the Nyanza Regional Ball games that begin next week tuesday in Homabay.
