ASAC Concorde are ready to down Esperance of Tunisia in the preliminary round, first leg encounter of the CAF Champions League slated on Saturday 10 February 2018, club president Sy Boubacar speaks out.
According to Boubacar, they have a target to go a long way in this year’s African Champions League, when they host Tunisia giants at Cheikh Boidiya Stadium in Nouakchott.
“I keep telling the staff and the players that this match is an opportunity for us to show Mauritania and Africa that we can advance to the next stage and even capture the title,” said Boubacar in an interview with Rimsport.
“It is also an opportunity to show that you have to rely on the ASAC Concorde when talking about Mauritanian football,”adds Boubacar
Though to reduce a dream match-up of Concorde and the Tunisia giants to just statements is a disservice, especially when odds are they may not even engage in the same tackle.
Both teams play blistering, offensive-minded football, never abandoning their attacking ethos on their respective ways to amazing feats.
“These two matches against Tunisian side will also allow us to feel the temperature of international competitions, before we compete in Arab Champions League, a competition which we are also engaged this season,”noted Boubacar.
Should Concorde sail through this round they will face the winner between Gor Mahia of Kenya and Equatorial Guinea’s Leones Vegetarianos for a place in the last 16.
Esperance have already jetted in the country ahead of the big clash. The Tunisian delegation consisting of 20 players touched down on Thursday afternoon for the first leg with the return leg of preliminary stage set to be played in two week’s time in Tunis.
