Asante Kotoko SC beat Kenyan side 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to move on step closer to the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup competition.
Abdul Fatawu and skipper Amos Frimpong were the goalscorers for the Porcupine Warriors with Patila Omoto getting one back for the Kenyans in the return leg match played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Fatawu who stared upfront for Kotoko got the opener in the 17th minute after he cleverly got the ball off the foot of Kariobangi defender Geofrey Lemo and fired a shot to put his side ahead.
The Kenyans however drew level when Katila Omoto picked up the ball and drove in a long range shot from outside the box.
However with minutes to the end of the first half, Kotoko’s captain Amos Frimpong scored from the penalty spot after Songne Yacouba was brought down in the box.
Asante Kotoko held on to their goal advantage till the end of the match after failing to convert all the opportunities that came their way in the second half.
With the first leg ending goalless between the two sides, Kotoko have advanced to the next stage of the competitions.
CAF is expected to announce Kotoko’s next opponents in the group stage soon though the next round of matches have been slated for January 11 and January 18 respectively.BACK TO TOPSocial links: GhanaFA GhanaFA
