Asante Kotoko are ready to take the fight to Hearts of Oak in the 2017 edition of the President Cup encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday 2nd July 2017.
The two giants will be meeting for the third time within four months and Kumasi will be buzzing as the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana football clash.
Speaking in an interview with Kotoko’s offical portal, team manager Steven Palock revealed that the team is going to defend the glittering trophy they won last year aganist their archrivals.
“We are going to give 120 per cent to this game. That’s going to be the case with whoever starts the game. Our supporters need to know that, yes! I want to win every game,” the coach said.
“I know it’s a big game always – Kotoko vs Hearts or Hearts vs Kotoko. I’m well at home. We want to bring that trophy to the supporters,”he added.
“The (fans) need to be shouting about something this year. Hopefully, the first trophy will be the President Cup and then after, the FA Cup and then may be the league also,”Palock concluded.
His players are expecting a win to confirm their superiority with Kotoko midfielder Michael Akuffu putting it clear that they are eager to win their first trophy this year.
“We are attaching great importance to Sunday’s game .It’-s our first cup match in Kumasi in 2017.We’ve to win to make our fans proud,” he said.
The last two editions of Hearts-Kotoko President Cup have been fascinating.In 2015 at the Accra Sports Stadium,Hearts beat Kotoko 5-4 on penalties after a breathtaking goalless draw.
Koyoko avenged the defeat in 2016 when they edged out Hearts 3-2 also on penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time.
