Asante Kotoko are the 2017 President Cup champions after seeing off their rivals Hearts of Oak 4-1 on penalties.

The match ended in a goalless draw in regular time forcing the referee to call for post-match penalties to unlock the deadlock.

Kotoko flawlessly executed their assignment as they beautifully scored all their kicks to send their teeming fans into wild jubilation.

Hearts of Oak’s Vincent Atinga and Robin Gnagne missed their kicks.

Kotoko had Amos Frimpong,Evans Quao and Saddick Adams scoring.

The match was a replay of Sundays encounter that was rained off following heavy storm in Kumasi.

Both sides created tremendous in the first half with Evans Quao’s solo run on the right wing almost turning fruitful but went it wide. He was at it again moments later but his header also went wide.

Hearts of Oak staged a counter attack but Atinga slowed down allowing Adams to intercept his cross headed for the waiting Gggane on the right.

The best chance of the first half however landed on Hearts captain Abbey after being let lose by Amos. He moved past Evans Quao but his curling shot was deflected and later stopped by Sadick in Kotoko goal.

The second half was tougher for the sides as both coaches made tactical changes to their lineups making the match a 50-50 affair.

Hearts’s efforts nearly paid off in the 83 rd minute after Kouami combined well with Fatawu after an unselfish run from the left wing. He cut in for Mahama then placed it low to the near post but sprawling Annan got his hand to the ball.

Kotoko then defended well for the remainder of the match to ensure that the match headed for the post-match penalties, one that they won.
