Asante Kotoko eased to the CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage for the first time since 2008 with a 2-1 (5-3 aggregate) win over Coton Sports of Cameroon at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Porcupines Warriors began the game on the positive note, dominated the game, created some openings but failed to put them away.
Coton Sport came into the picture, had some decent spell of possession and chances but unable to bury them.
On the stroke of halftime, captain, Amos Frimpong gave Kotoko the breakthrough from the spot after Yacouba Songne brought down in the 18-yard box.
Back from the recess, Kotoko continued from where they left off and almost doubled their advantage through Emmanuel Gyamfi but his strike was saved by the Cameroonian goalkeeper, Bassa Jeri.
Minutes later, Maxwell Baako increased the lead to make it two for the Porcupines Warriors.
On 77 minutes, Emmanuel Gyamfi nearly got the third for his side but his shot was blocked by the defence men of Coton Sports.
Oumari Sali reduced the deficit with a well-taken shot nine minutes to full time.
The Visitors piled more pressure in search for an equaliser but the defence of Kotoko stood tall and held onto their narrow lead as the referee Federico Duarte blew his whistle to bring the game to a close.
Kotoko qualifies to the CAF Confederation Cup Game stage for the first time sinceprog
