Asante Kotoko have officially unveiled Charles Kwablan Akonnor as the club’s new head coach.
The 44-year-old, who formerly coached Dreams FC and Ashanti Gold succeeded coach Paa Kwesi Fabin in the Baba Yara Sports Stadium hot seat.
Paa Kwesi Fabin left his Kotoko role after a leaked video where he was seen and heard negotiating with an unnamed South African club while under contract. The unveiling was done at the conference room of Sports Hotel in Kumasi on Wednesday afternoon.
C.K. Akunnor signed the dotted lines in a three-year-deal on Monday after a fruitful negotiation. Earlier in the day, he was introduced to the players and the technical staff at the Adako Jachie training grounds.
At a press conference, C.K has said this is his biggest test in his career as a coach and he knows he can sail through. “This is the biggest challenge in my coaching career and I know I can pass. I’m not here as the miraculous man but together with everyone we can perform miracles.”
He added:” It is not always going to be smooth but we can sail through together. We would give ourselves three months to assess every player and afterward we would make decisions going forward.”
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) George Amoako tasked C.K Akunnor to win the club a continental title adding that he will be given the necessary support.
“C.K is generally accepted to win a continental title by the end of his contract or within the shortest possible time. Management shall continue to support and motivate the coach.
