KCCA F.C thrashed whipping cops Police F.C 3-0 Friday, October 21 at Philip Omondi stadium, Kampala, to consolidate lead at the top of Azam Uganda premier league.
The defending champions are now 3 points clear off second placed Vipers SC on 22 points, after 10 rounds of fixtures.
In the match attended by 820 fans, the “garbage collectors” started the better side, and 8 minutes into the tie, ever green striker Geoffrey Serunkuuma connected Mucureezi’s cross into an empty net for the opener.
He doubled the lead four minutes later with a brace off another cross, this time from Hakim Ssenkumba to take his goal’s tally to six, same as Onduparaka FC’s sharp shooter Muhammad Shaban.
In the 20th minute, the coach Mike Mutebi’s charges continued to push for a third goal from the middle of the park manned by Muzamir Mutyaba and Kirabira Isaac, but the Police defense was alert to deal with the threats. KCCA defender Habib Kavuma was cautioned in the 21st minute.
The visitors pushed for at least a goal in the half, as lanky forward Peter “Crouch” Senyonjo tried his luck with a long shot only to be denied by custodian Benjamin Ochan. 2-0 it ended at half time.
It was the visitors that made the first change five minutes into the second half with Nkume Eddie coming on for Mayamba in an attempt to add on more attacking options.
The home side also made their first change a minute to the hour mark with Nigerian Akinyemi coming on for Muzamir Mutyaba.
They (KCCA) again pulled out Habib Kavuma after sighting lack of concentration on his part, bringing on Paul Musamaali for a 3-man defense marshaled by captain Denis Okot.
Musamaali immediately rewarded Mutebi’s trust with a well weighed cross in the 70th minute, which was well headed in by striker Derrick Nsibambi to make it 3-0.
At this this time, Sam Timbe’s cops looked demoralized, as he made final substitution bringing on former KCCA’s striker Anthony Bongole for Peter Senyonjo.
KCCA FC also made their final substitution bringing on last season’s AUPL top scorer Robert Sentongo for two goal hero and man of the match Geoffrey Serunkuuma. They pressed further for the fourth in the last minutes of the game through Sentongo, Ochaya, Muleme and Mucureezi but all their efforts were unsuccessful.
