Tunisia’s World Cup hopes are diminishing by the minute after falling to a 1-0 defeat against Australia in their second Group D match on Saturday.
Mitchell Duke scored the only goal of the game in the 23rd minute rising above the Tunisia defenders to head home what would be the winning goal.
Jalel Kadri’s men were coming into this game on the back of an impressive display in the draw against Denmark.
Youssef Msakni had the best chance for the Carthage Eagles to draw level when he met a cross in the box but his attempt went wide of goal.
Msakni attempted six of Tunisia’s nine shots in this game – the most shots attempted by a Tunisian player in a World Cup match.
Unfortunately none of them found the back of the net. Tunisia pinned the Australians in the closing moments of the game but the Socceroos remained resolute to record their first win.
Tunisia will now have a monumental task against defending Champions France in their final group game on Wednesday 30 November, 2022.
