The Zambia Women’s National Team has shifted base to the resort city of Marrakech from Rabat as part of continued preparations for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
The Copper Queens left Morocco’s capital at 14h00 local time and arrived in the country’s fourth largest city three hours after kickstarting their journey.
While in Rabat, the team played out to a 1-1 draw with Morocco and also held daily training sessions as they continue to fine-tune for the tournament that kicks off on July 2.
In Marrakech, the team is expected to play two Friendly matches before moving to Casablanca where Group B AWCON matches will be played.
The Copper Queens start their campaign against Cameroon at the Mohammed V stadium on July 3 before facing North Africans Tunisia three days later. They will wrap up their Group B engagement with a tie against debutants Togo on 9 July.
The top four finishers in Morocco will qualify directly for the World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2023, while two additional teams will progress to the intercontinental play-offs.
