NEWLY-CROWNED CECAFA Kagame Cup champions Azam FC crossed the Indian Ocean to Zanzibar, to prepare for their much-awaited Community Shield match against Mainland Young Africans in what will see a repeat of their Cecafa Kagame Cup clash that saw the Ice Cream makers eliminate Yanga on post match penalties.
The two sides are set to lock horns on August 22 2016,, in an eagerly awaited Premier League curtain raiser fixture to be staged at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Azam Information Officer Jaffar Idd confirmed that Stewart Hall’s men are in Zanzibar ready to step up their preparation ahead of what promises to be a mouthwatering fixture.
Idd said Azam have travelled with a full squad and while in Zanzibar, they will play three build-up games against top division sides namely; JKU, Mafunzo and KMKM.
Azam FC eliminated Yanga from the Kagame Cup in the quarter-final stage following a 5-3 win on penalties and both clubs are determined to win the Community Shield game and go into the new season on a high.
Meanwhile Yanga have been preparing at Mbeya for the important Charity Shield match that they hope to revenge their loss to Azam.
