Azam Football Club CEO Saad Kawemba Byemba has confirmed that Brian Majwega is still their player but they are not prepared to stick onto someone who is not ready to fight for their cause.
The CEO was speaking to the Daily Monitor after Azam beat Mweya FC 2-1 at Azam Complex on Sunday to join Yanga and Mtibwa FC atop the log with a maximum haul of 12 points from four matches.
Hannington Kalyesubula, former Uganda Cranes custodian, was in goal for Mtibwa. “I can authoritatively say Majwega is still our player. We have his licence. We hear he is back in Uganda and we have temporarily left it to Uganda (Fufa) to handle the situation,” Byemba said. “We continue with our business here. When is ready he will come back.”
The Uganda Cranes winger joined Azam last December and has a two- year contract with the Cecafa Kagame Cup holders.
He went on: “Any club who want to sign him will have to come to us. We are prepared to allow him to go on a free but we shall retain 50 per cent on future transfers. As a team we have principles, we only want players that want to play for us. Majwega is still a young man with a bright future, we don’t want to victimise him.”
However, his former Ugandan club KCCA have expressed interest to take him on loan for a year.
“We expressed interest but are waiting for his decision. Apparently, we have no relationship with him till when a decision is taken by Azam,” said Julius Kabugo, KCCA chairman.
