Tanzanian Vodacom premier league defending champions Azam set up a mouth watering clash against Sudan giants El Mereikh courtesy of an emphatic 4-1 clobbering of Ethiopans Adama City.
The road to the quarter final has not been smooth and easy for Azam ensuring they got the important eight points and finishing second in group B.The most suprising of results was Azam 2-2 draw against South Sudan side Altabara where the ice cream makers huffed and puffed running every inch of the pitch as they fought to get the draw as defeat was glaring hard at them.
However they fought to a 0-0 draw against hosts Rayon Sports who in essence finished on top of Group B the other big win for Azam was when they crushed KMKM from Zanzibar 4-0 in another fantastic victory for coach Joseph Omog who has seen his side rise game after game with the big Adama win a motivator as they move to a tough quarter final match against El Mereikh .Azam with the likes of Ivorian Herman Kipre Tcheche,Shomari Kapombe,Haitian Saint Preux Lionel ,Omog has enough ammunition to face a tricky El Mereikh side.
El Merreikh finished second in Group C with four points from three games.Kenyan striker Allan Wanga has been a great asset helping his new team through to the Quarter final match against Azam.
The Sudanese picked up four points from three games including a 1-0 loss to Police FC of Rwanda in their opening game of the competition before thrashing Somalia’s Banadir 4-0 and drawing 1-1 against the defending champions Vital’O from Burundi.
