South Africa Banyana Banyana booked their spot in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations semi final after beating Egypt 5-0 in the final Group A match played at Omnisports Stadium in Limbe.
It actually rained goals coming from Adrisiwe Mcgoyi,Nathando Vilakazi,Rifole Jane,Jermaine Seoposenwe, and a strike from Linda Mothalo to hand Banyana Banyana a victory over Egypt in an one sided match played on Friday afternoon.
South Africa started the better of the two teams with Mcgoyi coming closest inside the opening five minutes of the match.
It took Banyana sometime to find the back of the net despite numerous chances created in the first quarter.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 27th minute with Andisiwe Mcgoyi’s strike for the opening goal of the match.
Egypt struggled to gain control in the game making no threat at the opponents goal in the entire first half.
Banyana Banyana continued to dominate, but missed more chances as the match headed for the half-time break at 1-0.
South Africa came back stronger in the second-half creating more goal scoring chances.
Desiree Ellis’s side managed to increase the lead in the 60th minute as this time Mcgoyi became the provider for Portia Nathando Vilakazi, who easily tapped-in for the second goal.
Refiloe Jane made it 3-0 ten minutes later as the highly experienced striker finished neatly, after a good long ball played into the box.
With Banyana Banyana now in control of the match, Jermaine Seoposenwe registered her name on the score sheets on 68th minute with a brilliant finish for the forth goal.
Banyana were not done there, as Linda Mothalo rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box in the 85th minute.
The result on the side of Egypt made them the third team to exit the prestigious tournament.They join Kenya and Zimbabwe Warriors.
