Former Cameroon Belgian boss Hugo Broos has urged African teams to be patient with coaches if they expect “big results.”

The 65-year-old also called for professionalism and good football infrastructure if the continent wants to produce good players.

“If you want big results you have to put in big efforts and you have to be professionals,” Hugo said.

“I think you have to have good infrastructure; this is a big problem in Africa certainly in Cameroon. When you don’t have good pitches it’s very difficult to make good players.”

Despite winning the 2017 AFCON in Gabon with the Indomitable Lions, Hugo was shown the door after failing to qualify for the World Cup in Russia.

“Be patient. This is a big problem in Africa because when you lose one game everything is bad and this is not the reality.

“When you lose one game that means you have to do bigger efforts to do better and it’s not finished but in several African countries it’s finished and they take another coach and they start again so it’s very difficult to progress.

“Be patient even if it is not good be patient,” the former JS Kabylie coach stressed.

No African team has ever won the biggest prize in the World football, the World Cup, with the best finish being quarterfinals exit.

Five teams namely Nigeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco and Senegal will try to change this in Russia this year with high expectations on their shoulders than before.
