Ghana Black Stars kicked off their training session Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia ahead of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya’s Harambee Stars in Nairobi.
Coach Kwesi Appiah had 16 players turning up for their first day of training ahead of the match to be played in the Moi International Sports Centre(Kasarani) in Nairobi on Saturday.
The players were taken through their paces in the chilly evening in Addis Ababa before taking to ball work with all the start participating.The Black Stars showed good signs of seriousness for the game as they look to maintain a 100 per cent record in the qualifiers.
Goalkeepers’ trainer took charge of the shot-stoppers Richard Ofori and Ati Zigi to their their training complete for the day.
Four players Kwadwo Asamoah, Christian Atsu, Harrison Afful and Ebenezer Ofori are expected to join the squad by Tuesday and take part in the two training sessions on Wednesday.
The gaffer has been forced to make changes to his initial 21-man squad due to injuries sustained by some players while on club assignments.
Ghana lost the services of experienced defender John Boye and TSG Hoffenheim’s defender Kassim Nuhu are picking up injuries while playing for their respective clubs.
The Black Stars are hoping to continue from where they left off in their 5-0 win against Ethiopia in the opening game of the qualifiers however a buoyant Kenya have vowed to upset the form book in Nairobi.
The four-time Africa champions Ghana sits on top of Group F with three points with Sierra Leone pegging the second position as Kenya and Ethiopia lies third and fourth spot respectively.
