Gor Mahia’s versatile forward George “Blackberry” Odhiambo has been fated the Kenyan Premier League August player of the month.

Blackberry, who was among the leading lights in delivering this season’s league title to K’Ogalo, piped teammate Jacques Tuyisenge and Sofapaka’s new kid on the block Umaru Kasumba to the gong.

With four matches to go, Odhiambo has scored eight goals.

He garnered 18 votes one better than Tuyisenge’s with Kasumba coming third with 14.

Blackberry thanked his coach Dylan Kerr and teammates for the achievement.

“I want to thank coach Dylan Kerr, my teammates and the fans for this award,” the former KPL most valuable player said.

He becomes the fifth player to receive the award this season; others include Michael Madoya (Zoo FC), Brian Otieno (Nzoia Sugar), Steven Waruru (Ulinzi Stars) and Ernest Wendo (Gor Mahia).

The award tags a personalized trophy, 49” LG TV, Kshs 100,000 prize money and Kshs 50,000 for the team.
