Botswana Football Association will not send a team to this year’s COSAFA U20 Championships scheduled for Zambia from 6th to 16th December.

The decision was taken by its National Executive to allow a one year gap for internal reorganization.

“Our position is that the U20 is where the direction of our football should be developed, however our evaluation allows that our recent performances do not positively define our direction,” BFA statement reads.

“The vision of the National Executive is to have an U20 team that competes more than participates,”

“The Technical Department has been tasked to develop structures that will assist to develop a team that will compete with a long term goal in mind,” it adds.

12 teams including hosts and defending champions Zambia, guest teams Egypt and Uganda have confirmed participation.
