The Namibia Women’s National team will be hoping to cause an upset when they face the Copper Queens in back to back matches for the 2022 Morocco TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The team and officials have arrived in Lusaka ahead of Wednesday’s match at Nkoloma Stadium.
Coach Woody Jacobs believes his team has what it takes to beat Zambia.
“We believe we are ready for this game. Even if we are not we need to be ready. So we are here not to make up numbers. We did not come here to do formalities. We are here to fight Zambia,” he said as he addressed the press in Lusaka today.
“Yes we respect our opponents so much but we also know it’s a football match and a football match needs to be played. And whenever we step on the pitch we always try to do our best.”
Captain Emma Naris will be one of Coach Jacobs key players. Naris has promised that the team will give their all against the Copper Queens.
“We are ready for the match. We want to make history and qualify for the first time. We are going to give Zambia a match that they have never seen,” Naris said.
Namibia will host the Copper Queens in South Africa for the second leg match set for February 22.
Winner over two legs will qualify to the AWCON tournament that will run from 2-23 July that also doubles as the African qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
