Malawi Football Federation President Walter Nyamilandu has won the much anticipated FIFA Council Elections (Anglophone zone) held in Sharm Al Sheikh in Egypt.

The vote had to go for a run-off after Nyamilandu finished the first round as winner with 23 votes against Danny Jordan who had 17 and Leodegar Tenga had 14 votes. According to the rules for the  FIFA Council member elections a candidate had to get   50+1  to be outright winner needing  28 votes.

In the run-off pitting Walter Nyamilandu and Danny Jordan the Malawian FA President who has led the federation for four terms won hands down getting 35 votes to Danny Jordan’s 18 votes.

Speaking to www.soka25east.com after the vote Nyamilandu alluded to the fact that he was ready to serve Africa “I want to sincerely thank all those members who voted for me.It completes shows the trust they have had in me and I want to promise them I will represent Africa well”

“I want to also thank my fellow competitors it was not an easy ride but they also gave their best hope they will all support me now that the elections are over”he added

Earlier on  Elvis Chetty (Seychelles) and Nick Mwendwa (Kenya ) withdrew  their candidature from the FIFA council member elections.

Several weeks ago Danny Jordan had been endorsed by COSAFA region after he got 6 votes while Nyamilandu got 4 votes while Chetty got 2 votes.
