Prominent Businessman Andrew Kamanga has been elected the new President of the Football Association of Zambia at the FAZ elective general conference held at Moba Hotel in Kitwe last night.
Kamanga won the tightly contested poll with 163 votes beating his closet rival and incumbent Kalusha Bwalya who got 156 votes while Henschel Chitembeya got one vote.
Chairman of the Electoral Commission Sikwana Lukangaba announced the results of the polls which confirms Kamanga as the new FAZ boss for the next four years.
Kamanga assumes the FAZ Presidency at a time when Zambian football is at the crossroads with the incumbent Kalusha under investigation for bribery and corruption charges both at home under the Anti Corruption Commission and at the world governing body FIFA.
And Kalusha has congratulated Kamanga on his official Facebook account.
“Football is about winning and losing . I want Zambian Football to win. All the best 2 @FAZFootball and the New leadership.” He wrote
Meanwhile, Richard Kazala has been elected as vice president, polling 117 votes beating his closest rival Pivoty Simwanza who had 107 votes. Mofya Chisala received 58 votes while Cephas Kampamba Katongo had 28 votes. Boniface Mwamelo polled 8 votes. There were 5 spoiled ballots.
