By Staff Reporter,
South Africa PSL side Bidvest Wits are in the process of acquiring new foreign nationals to bolster their squad for the upcoming 2015/16 season and therefore two of their current foreign nationals are set to make way for the new arrivals.
Ethiopian International Getaneh Kebede is set to get the chop together with veteran Zambian striker, Christopher Katongo Soka25east.com has reliably learnt.
Getaneh Kebede who was a bright light in his first season at Bidvest Wits however struggled to maintain consistency in their game throughout the season hence the club’s decision to offload him and his place could be taken by Kenyan International Allan Wanga who has declined to renew his contract at Sudanese side Al Mereikh.
The 23-year-old Getaneh made just five league stars in 10 appearances bagging two goals in his second season at the club. His deal with the Millpark-based club is set to expire in June 2016.
It will be a big blow to the Ethiopian Intetrnational who was considered a bright prospect when he joined South Africa but luck has not been in his side this season as he failed to shine in the competitive league leading to coach Gavin Hunt seeking to get his replacement.
Getaneh Joined Bidvest Wits in 2013 after being named best player and top scorer in the Ethiopian Premier league in 2012/2013 season as a Dedebit player.
Club career
Getaneh began his club career with Debub Police, before he moved to Dedebit. He was the 2013 top scorer of the Ethiopian Premier league. On July 19, 2013, Getaneh Kebede succeeded in his trials at Bidvest Wits and signed a three-year contract with the team.
International career
Getaneh Kebede was part of the celebrated Ethiopian team that qualified for Africa Cup of Nations 2013 hosted by South Africa and he was in the team that managed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup play off where they lost to Nigeria.
Kebede also known as Gecho has been instrumental for Ethiopia being the striking partner of Al Ahly’s Salhadin Said
