Bright Stars were held to a barren draw by SC Villa in a Uganda Premier League match played at the Champions Stadium in Mwererwe on Tuesday afternoon.
Nicholas Sebwato produced a man of the match performance to help Bright Stars collect a varuable point that reduces the gap between them and league leaders KCCA as they continue with the march to the top three positions on the table.
The Lato Milk sponsored team started the match brightly, winning an early free-kick on the right wing courtesy of Askam Mutyaba but unfortunately, his effort was not well utilized by teammates. In the 17th minute, Mehodious Jjungu was fouled by but Fred Segujja was unable to find the target from 25 yards.
In the 40th minute, SC Villa had a good chance to take the lead as Kiiza Martin was well fed from the left but his effort went wide. After the break, the Jogoos came back stronger hoping to get an opener and the wasteful Emma Okwi failed to connect Godfrey Lwesibawa’s cross.
In the 56th minute, the hardworking Semere Derrick was fed the ball on the right, did well to get into the danger zone, unfortunately he was out-muscled and the ball went out for a goal kick.
Mehodius Jjungu could have given a shock lead, lashing onto a long ball, beating Samson Kirya , but his cross went out for a goal-kick.
In the late minutes of second half , Bright Stars won a corner and Batte Seif connected it well but was unfortunate to be denied by keeper Samson Kirya. A few minutes later, Farouk Banga hit the target after good work by Sseguja but the custodian once again saved the hosts.
At long last it was a frustrating 0-0 draw for the SC Villa but a massive point for Bright Stars , who are lost the first round to Villa in a 8 goals thriller.
