Two first half strikes from Banou Diawara and Prejuce Nakoulma gave Burkina Faso a 2-0 win over Cape Verde in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde on Saturday night.
In the wake of the defeat, the Blue Sharks remain rooted at the bottom of the Group D table with zero points from two losses after losing 2-0 to Senegal last month.
The two early goals for Burkina ensured they walked away with the full three points erasing their disappointing 1-1 draw against South Africa at home last month.
As early as the second minute the Burkinabe broke the deadlock as they found the back of the net through Diawara when he scored to hand the visitors an early lead.
The visitors continued to dominate and towards the 30th minute mark, striker Nakoulma doubled the lead to ensure they were in total control of the proceedings in Praia.
It was 2-0 at the interval.
Upon their return from the tunnel, the Stallions continued dominating Lucio Artunes’ men as they managed to hold onto their comfortable lead.
On the other hand, the win has elevated Paulo Duarte’s side to the top of the the group due to the goal against difference, removing South Africa from the top.
