Algeria drew 1-1 in an international friendly against Burundi tonight at Al Sadd’s stadium in Qatar. After a goalless first half, Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring for the Desert Foxes after an hour in the 68th minute.
However, a mistake by goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi allowed Cedric Amissi to equalise for the visitors and leave the North African side stunned.
Bounedjah, who was playing in the stadium of his own club, scored his sixth goal in seven matches for Algeria and showed why he deserves to be the number one forward.
The game was not on television, and was used a warm-up for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations matches against fellow East African sides Kenya and Tanzania.
The likes of Riyad Mahrez, Youcef Atal and Yacine Brahimi started for Algeria in what was a very attacking line-up by Les Verts.
Youcef Belaili looked very impressive, continuing his fine form after scoring in the CAF Champions League final for Esperance. He got the assist for the goal.
Algeria remain unbeaten against Burundi in five meetings against the minnows. Djamel Belmadi used 17 players in total from his 23-man squad in the game.
