Azam Rwanda Premier League 2016 awards gala went down on Friday night at Remera Gardens, Kigali.
The colorful event that brought together the crème de la crème of the Rwandan game including players, officials and administrators was a celebration of a long and tiresome but rewarding season as they looked back, lived the moment and pondered about the future.
It was even more special and rewarding for players who broke sweat, entertained and created special moments all season, for it was an occasion to recognize their efforts, and renew their spirits before the cycle starts all over again.
For one player in specific, Burundi international Pierrot Kwizera the night will forever remain memorable. The 25 year old Rayon Sports midfielder bagged the most valuable player award, the biggest of the night, warding off stiff challenge from Mukura’s Muhadjiri Hakizimana and fellow team mate Savio Nshuti Dominique.
Kwizera who joined the Nyanza based side in January 2015 from Simba SC in the Tanzanian Premier League, scored seven times in the campaign and was a cog in midfield for Rayon, guiding them to a runner up finish in the league and a Peace Cup glory.
The Bujumbura born player has already committed his future at Rayon, signing a new improved 2-year deal.
Rayon Sports were also the biggest winners of the night scooping four awards and had four of their players in the team of the year – overshadowing arch rivals and league champions APR FC who walked home empty handed.
Golden boot glory was a split between Hakizimana Muhadjiri and Dany Usengimana who both shook the net 16 times.
The winners each walked home Rwf. 500,000 richer courtesy of FERWAFA.
