As Group Stage kick off gets close at hand
The Confederation of African Football has written to the Ugandan Football Association in response to the inspection done by its team in relation to CAF Champions League suitability of Stadium.
National flag bearers KCCA are in the group stages of CAF Champions League, and the continental governing body had dispatched a team to Uganda to inspect three Stadium submitted by the National association.
On the examined list, there was Startimes Stadium originally Phillip Onandi Stadium, St Mary’s Stadium and Mandela Stadium.
Of the three only Mandela Stadium passed the inspections calibre, but with conditions. CAF have noted in its communique to the Secretary General/CEO of the Uganda Football Association Mr. Edgar Watson Suubi.
They have indicated specifics that need attention so that it can be fully ready to host CAF organised matches in the Champions League.
Exact deatails of the rejected Stadiums are contained in the appendix to the communique which we could not obtain by the time of this article.
CAF Deputy Secretary General is quoted as saying “We depend on your maximum cooperation to bring the Stadium to required level in order to protect and improve the level of Africa Football” Anthony Baffoe who deputises the SG on Football and Development wrote.
KCC qualified to the group stages of the CAF Champions League in the 2018 edition and are grouped alongside Al Ahly of Egyptian, Township Rollers of Botswana and Espérance de Tunis of Tunisia.
The first games will be played on 4th May 2018.
