CARA Brazzaville suffered a 1-0 loss to Williamsville Athletic Club in their CAF Confederations Cup,Group C match at the Stade Robert Champroux Luveve Stadium in Marcory, Abidjan on Sunday.
The Red Eagles conceded a goal in the 18th minute of the encounter when Iri Zan Bi found the back of the net with a clinical finish in what would be the only score on the day.
Mbangou Elly had the first real chance for the hosts in the 10th minute, but was wayward with his attempt which sailed into the crowd.
The Congolese were looking more threatening each time they pushed forward for an equalizer.
In the 25th minute, CARA midfielder Fostin Frank played a good through pass for Mbo Ngoma, but Epoyo came out to make a decent save.
Williamsville striker Jeam Willy was played in on the left, but his shot went wide of the target as the home side looked to add the second a minute after the half-hour mark.
Upon their return, the nine-time Congolese Premier League champions put pressure on the home side and their appeal for a handball when the ball touched Dagrou’s hands fell on match officials deaf ears.
The 52nd minute saw Richy Ondongo unleashing a powerful shot which was goal-bound, but the opponents goalkeeper punched the ball away from danger
Okielle Olfaga found some space inside the Williamsville box in the 66th minute, but the winger placed his shot over Mandjui’s goal.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Williamsville shot-stopper was booked by the match for time wasting.
In the dying moments CARA enjoyed the ball possession, but their efforts upfront to find an equaliser were thwarted by Williamsville and his solid defence.
The result of this game therefore leaves Williamsville second in Group C with CARA Brazzaville in third place.
Williamsville Athletic Club are next in action in Group C of the CAF Confederations Cup on Wednesday, May 16th away to Djoliba while CARA Brazzaville will host Enyimba on the same day.
