The preliminary round of CAF Confederation Cup matches started on Friday 10th February with 11 of the 20 scheduled first leg encounters played by Saturday.

It has been a weekend of shocking defeats with Kenya’s Ulinzi Stars being one of casualties when they fell 1-0 away to Libya’s Al Hilal in a match played in Egypt infront of an empty stadium.

A second half strike from Ahmed Abar left the army side with a mountain to climb and they will need nothing short of two goals victory in the return leg.

In Monrovia, favourites JS Kabylie from Algeria were silenced by little known Monrovia Club Breweries when they were defeated 3-0,while Rwanda’s Rayon Sport whitewashed South Sudan’s Wau Salaam by 4-0 in a one sided match.

Magreb Fez of Morroco also recorded a huge win when they thrashed CARA Brazzaville 3-0.South Africa Platinum Stars laboured to defeat OUS Songo on Saturday in Rustenborg where they won by a solitary goal.

St Michel United of Seychelles suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sudan’s Al Hilal with Uganda’s Vipers SC unable to unleash vemon when they were held into a disspointing goalless draw in Kampala.

Today there will be more nine ties lined-up across the continent to wrap up the first leg ties.
