Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rescheduled the Confederations Cup playoffs tie between Rayon Sports of Rwanda and Nigeria’s Rivers United due to the 23rd Commemoration the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The current Rwandan Premier League table leaders were supposed to play the first leg away in Port Harcourt, Nigeria over the weekend before hosting the return leg on the weekend of April 13-15, at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

However, the Rwandan FA-FERWAFA officially requested CAF to rescheuule the matches because of the Genocide commemoration week that started on Friday April 7 to April 14th.

In return, CAF considered this request inevitable and decided the two matches to be played between April 15th and April 22nd.

Meanwhile, Rayon coach Djuma Masudi kicked off theirr preparations for the CAF tie this weekend at Kigali Nyamirambo.

Masudi, who is eyeing a win away from home has said that they have began preparing early ahead of the trip to try and keep in shape and because of the enormity of the task at hard.

“The spirit is high in the team,” the former Rayon player revealed.

“The opponent will be tough but early preparations could do the trick,” Masudi added.

Rayon progressed to the play off stage after their first round, second leg match fixture against Mali’s Onze Createurs was cancelled by CAF following the suspension of the Malain Football Assocaition by FIFA.

Rivers United on the other hand were dumped out of the CAF Champions League by El-Merreikh of Sudan, who pulled off one of the greatest comeback to progress on 4-3 aggregate.
