Vipers SC have been eliminated from the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup after losing 3-2 to Platinum Stars on aggregate.
The Kitende-based side had won 1-0 at home and needed a draw of any margin but the Dikwena were determined side winning 3-1 at the death at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Saturday night.
Platinum Stars goalie Mzimela was the hero of the day, netting two penalties in both halves as Mabena had also his name of the score sheet to send the venoms packing.Milton Karisa had a consolation in early exchanges of the second half but his goal was not enough.
Venoms started on a wrong footing conceeding a penalty on the second minute when Benson Silongo was fouled in the penalty area.Mzimela stepped to convert the spot-kick sending Ismael Watenga the wrong way.
Brian Nkuubi had a chance for venoms minutes before half an hour mark when he connected with a cross from Nico Wadada but his effort went wide.
Dikwena doubled the lead in the 26th minute courtsey of Mabena well taken free kick that took Vipers defenders on the wrong foot.
In the second half Vipers were on target in the 55th minute when Milton Karisa pulled one for the visitors following a defensive error.
It could have been very different had the Vipers shown a bit of composure in the final third of the game, but it was a day of bad luck for the visitors.
Platinum coach Cavin Johnson made two changes as his side resulted to time wasting tactics.This made Vipers to push forward but their defensive errors were punished when they Paltinum Stars were awarded another penalty on 80th minute.Mzimela again stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it 3-1.
Vipers came close as the home side recoiled into a defensive mode, but they were lacking something in the final third as the game ended with Platinum Stars having one man down after Robert Ngambi was sent off for a second bookable offence in regulation time.
