Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau scored a brace as Al Ahly beat Esperance Tunis 3-0 in the CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg clash on Friday night at Stade Olympique de Rades Stadium.
Marcel Koller’s side started the game brightly, pushing forward in numbers to find an opener.
And indeed, it did not take much time for Al Ahly to break the deadlock through the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star Tau just eight minutes into the game.
Tau’s recent stellar displays at the Egyptian powerhouse have been phenomenal and one cannot take it for granted.
Al Ahly advanced to the tournament’s semi-final after defeating Raja Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate.
The Egyptian giants put on a superb show of class in the first half, while the home side had little to offer.
The game went into the half-time break with Al Ahly leading Esperance with a 1-0 scoreline.
In the second half, the hosts tried to be the better side, but the visitors stood their ground.
But, Al Ahly regained their momentum and the Esperance could not contain their surge.
In the 55th minute of the showdown, Tau completed his brace as he added to the scoreline to make it 2-0.
Al Ahly fought so hard to maintain their lead, as the Tunisian side tried to pull one back.
Kahraba netted the third goal for Al Ahly in the 75th minute to put the last nail in the coffin.
Al Ahly continued to put in a resilient defending performance in the last remaining 10 minutes of the second stanza to rebuff the efforts of the hosts’ attackers to claim three away goals.
One can say that it will be difficult for Esperance to bounce back and score four goals in Egypt.
