Antonio Dayo’s goal ensured Ferroviario Beira beat Al-Merreikh 1-0 in the CAF Champions League Group A at Estádio do Ferroviário on Saturday afternoon.

In the wake of the win for the hosts, Aleixo Fumo’s men now sit at No 2 with four points from three matches and will now hope to beat Ferroviario at home in a fortnight.

However, they will wait for the result between Etoile Sportive du Sahel and Al Hilal Omdurman, who will face off against each other on Saturday night.

The hosts came into this encounter hoping to bag their first win in the club continental tournament, but they failed to grab an early goal.

Although they were touted as favourites ahead of the match as hosts, the visiting Sudanese outfit stood firm at the back.

Despite both sides fighting for dominance, chances were few and far in the contest and they both went to the tunnel held at 0-0.

However, Dayo managed to break the deadlock in the 67th minute when he finished to hand the hosts a deserved lead.

Despite the hosts pushing forward to score their second goal and secure the lead, the visiting defence stood firm as Ferroviario claimed their first win in the group.

The loss for the visitors sees them occupying the bottom of the table with one point.

meanwhile, coach Nabil Kouki will hope they win their next match against the Mozambicans at home on June 20.
