CNAPS of Madagascar shocked Kenya’s Gor Mahia 2-1 in the first leg of CAF Champions League preliminaries played on Saturday 13 at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.
The win is a sweet revenge for the Islanders who were kicked out of the same competition by the Kenyan champions at the same stage last year, losing 1-0 in Nairobi before crushing out at home on away goals rule despite winning 3-2.
The two away goals will be crucial for CNAPS heading into the reverse tie which they host in a fortnight’s time, as they will only need a draw or a simple win to move to the nest round.
Reherinivo Rijala scored for CNAPS in the 15th minute before Gor’s Enock Agwanda reduced the deficit in the 40th minute, from the spot after a hand ball in the box.
Mandampisoa Lilaina scored the winner in the 83rd minute to secure the three points. Gor will now have to score 3 unanswered goals in Madagascar to be sure of progression.
