Tuesday’s CAF Champions League action saw three teams – ES Setif, Williamsville AC and Al Hilal – advance into the first round of the competition.
Algeria’s Setif eliminated Central Africa Republic side Olympic Real de Bangui with a big 6-0 despite playing out to a goalless draw
It was all tension in Abidjan, where Ivorian hosts Williamsville AC scored a last-gasp goal to defeat Stade Malien 1-0 on the day and take the tie 2-1 on aggregate
In Omdurman, Al Hilal are licked Liberia’s LISCR with a 3-0 win, thanks to two first-half goals from Mohamed Bashir and a later strike from Sharaf Ali Shiboub. The Sudanese giants progressed 3-1 on aggregate.
The three aggregate winners join Saint George – who enjoyed a walkover – in the first round, which will be played next month and sees the entry of seeded teams Wydad Casablanca, Al Ahly, Etoile Sahel, TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns.
A further 22 preliminary round ties will be completed today February 21.
