Zanaco on Saturday battled Al Ahly to a barren draw at National Heroes Stadium in their Group D Caf Champions League clash.
The draw means Zanaco remains at the summit of the pool on 11 points, three clear of second-placed Al-Ahly.
Despite a number of clear cut chances, most of them in favour of a vastly improved Zanaco, the two sides could not find the back of the net.
Zanaco should have been ahead by at least three goals by the break had Augustine Malega been more clinical.
Al Ahly best chace in first half came in 38th minute when overlapping fullback Ahmed Fathi headed over the bar on both occasions while Walid Solidam too was wasteful on 41 minutes after good play from Junior Ajayi as half-time came with both sides.
Zanaco needed a win to qualify for quarter-final and so the second period was more intense, as the coach made some changes.
Augustine in particular had two golden opportunities, blazing over the bar on 76 minutes and then wasted a good opportunity with six minutes to go with some poor control, while on the other hand, Soliman improved Al-Ahly with his good attacking runs but wasted the only chance he got on 87 minutes with a poor attempt at a shot.
Zanaco needs an away daw at Wydad Caablanca in the coming weekend to secure their quarterfinal place.
For Al-Ahly there are second on the pool with eight points and will face Cotonsport next weekend.
