Rayon Sports will be hoping they can avoid the defensive lapses that saw them concede an away goal in their 1-1 draw against Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League preliminary round on Sunday at Kigali Stadium.
The Blues who are hoping to reach the group stages of Africa’s elite football competition for the second time dominated possession and had several chances but wasted many of them.
Rayon scored the opening goal in the 19th minute through Sarpong from an assist by Jean-Claude Iranzi who joined the club last month.
However poor communication between defender Hussien Habimana and goalkeeper Yves Kimenyi gifted the visitors who scored in the 25th minute through striker Nazir Hamid Nassir.
Al Hilah goalkeeper Yonis Altayeb Hassan important saves as Rayon Sports went on the attack after conceding.
Both teams missed crucial chances in the second half as Rayon Sports chased a winning goal.
Fabrice Mugheni Kakule, Sarpong and Iranzi who sighed from rivals APR had good game especially in the second half as the Sudanese side pushed for another away goal.
The return leg will be played in a week’s time in Khartoum. Rayon will need a draw of more than two goals or a win so that they can reach the first round of the Caf Champions League.
The winner between two sides will meet the former African champions Enyimba, who succumbed 1-0 away to Rahimo of Burkina Faso.
